The Exodus

What country would you like to go to? Austria, Germany, Italy? These are the words spoken to the Ukrainian people as they depart their buses and trains. They are in Poland. Poland and Romania already have close to a million refugees.

“Vienna” says the beautiful woman with two children. The son looks to be 14 or more and is sweet talking about how much he misses his father. “I love my father” he says. The smaller girl around 5 whose name is Zalotta smiles and jumps up and down. She is a young free spirit and seems to like change. All of the mothers say they are fleeing Ukraine to save their children.

The Great Divide. War. The splitting of Russians and Ukrainians who have known each other for so long.  The world is fraught with these divides in history— Jews, Germans, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Syrians, and on and on. When will it ever end?

A Danish family at the point of entry in Poland was holding up a sign saying they could take eight people that are together? This means they could take eight people for free to live and be warm and have a home while they need it. “Why did you do this?” the reporter asked. Because we could not watch and do nothing.

What can we do so far away and unable to offer freedom in America? How can we watch and do nothing? We wish we could make your life a little bit less difficult. In the meantime we watch amazed, while you RISE!

Thank you, Krystyna. The Ukrainian people are so full of hope even in the midst of such pain and suffering. It is my prayer that they will see the ending of this war soon and new possibilities for their freedom.
